Class Descriptions

Beginners Yoga

Beginner’s classes and courses

We take the beginners class on a journey and it is all about learning the basics in these slower moving classes which will involve holding each pose for a few breaths.  It will see you repeating some of the postures each week so that you learn the fundamentals required for your future practice. You will be able to truly feel the connection between body and breath and being ‘in the moment’. The classes all conclude with a guided rest pose. These courses are suitable for all bodies. It is preferable for those new to Yoga to start with this 6 week beginner’s course but is also available to those that would like to come back and revisit the fundamentals.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga

Hatha is a general category that includes most yoga styles. It is an old system that includes the practice of asana (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises) which helps bring peace to the mind and body, preparing the body for deeper spiritual practices such as meditation. It includes the Yoga postures and breathing techniques directed to purifying the physical body to achieve a healthy body. There is no better health tonic than Yoga asana and the Hatha yoga practice at the Yoga Byrne studio is suitable for all types of bodies.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga

This style of yoga is a great way to restore both the body and mind. What makes Restorative stand out from your regular practice is that it helps the body restore itself back to normal, back to healthy, back to uninjured. While Restorative yoga focuses on bodies with particular ailments it does assist the body to just simply be and feel nourishment throughout the nervous and hormonal system whereas Yin yoga works deep into the connective tissues to activate change at that deepest level. The Restorative classes are suitable for all students. For those either new to the practice or those just wanting time to simply be.

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa Yoga

Is also called ‘flow’ because of the smooth way that the poses run together. It is recognised as one of the most popular contemporary styles of yoga. In vinyasa yoga each movement is synchronised to a breath. It offers an alternate way to exercise that burns calories to help you lose weight. You move from pose to pose with the breath … and in some vigorous classes you can burn upward of 400 calories. Sweating using traditional cardio and vinyasa yoga can both help you lose weight but Vinyasa will also calm the body and mind.

Students with some experience will love these classes. We have level 1 on Sunday 8.00 am and Wednesday 6.15 pm then a more intensive intermediate level flow for those more practiced on Saturday 8.00am and Monday night 6.15 pm. Our 5.45am early bird classes are also designed for those with at least 6 months yoga experience.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga

Is a slow-paced style of yoga, with postures (called asana) that are held for longer periods of time—for beginners it may range from 45 seconds to two minutes; more advanced practitioners may stay in one asana for five minutes or even longer. Yin yoga activates change at a very deep level to increase performance in an already healthy body. It is a fantastic way to increase or maintain flexibility as it focuses on the areas around the joints. You will immediately notice more open hips, buttery muscles and a major mind detox. In the long run it will lubricate joints, release the fascia of the body, increase flexibility and positively affect your yang (flow etc.,) practice. Our yin class is run by a fully accredited/qualified yin teacher. All levels of students are welcomed to this class

Corporate Yoga

Workplace Wellness….

Companies need to offer creative and impactful wellness programs in order to bring about a real and authentic difference in employee health, motivation and engagement.

A growing number of industries are finding that offering yoga to their employees is a low-cost, preventative and holistic path to reducing stress and anxiety. It is the only form of mindfulness known to increase flexibility, strength, concentration and balance.

Yoga is not about striving to touch your toes or getting into complicated poses and breathing. It is a holistic approach to physical and mental health. Corporate yoga is an extended concept of both an inward and outer practice in the midst of a hectic corporate environment. The ripple effect of yoga goes beyond the edges of the yoga mat but overflows into the workplace.

There is conclusive evidence supporting the fact that offering even just one yoga session each week brings about changes in employee behaviour by helping them manage stress better, boosts team morale, enhance focus, clarity and creative thinking and improve communication skills and teamwork.

We can offer classes with strength and power called Vinyasa flow OR a gentle stretch for the employees who just feel they need to move their body called Hatha Flow OR a guided mediation to simply be, to rest and restore (Yoga Nidra).
A workshop or a one-off class could enable the employees who come along to be taught tools to better cope with stress when it arises. Finding the calm within the chaos of the mind Yoga and Meditation is a mind-body exercise effective for reducing stress, anxiety and depression improving brain function and mental health.
So let us help you with your workplace wellness program….

We have classes to suit all bodies and everybody…… Yoga mats and equipment can be provided.
